" A home is where, your credit is good at the corner store ! " ( page 14) " There is something peculiarly Bombayite about the Bombayites and likewise about Delhiites or New Yorkers or Parisians - the way the women walk, what their young people like to do in the evenings, what their definitions of fun and horror are. The growth of the megacity is an Asian phenomenon : Asia has 11 of the world's 15 biggest mega cities. Why do Asians like to live in cities ? May be we like people more. India is NOT an overpopulated country. Its population density is LOWER than that of many other countries that are not thought of as over populated. In 1999, Belgium had a population density of 333 people / Sq.Km : Netherlands : 385 / Sq.Km : India : under 303 / Sq.Km. It is the cities of India that are over populated. Singapore has a density of 6,500 people / Sq.Km : Berlin, the most crowded European city, has 2,900 people / Sq.Km. But the island city of Bombay had 15,000/Sq.Km in 1990 ! Some parts of Bombay, like central bombay, have 1 million people per square kilo meter. This is the highest number of people massed together at ANY spot in the world, at ANY point of human history. They are not equally dispersed across the island city. 66% of the people are crowded into just 5% of the area. While the richer and the rent-protected 1/3rd monopolise the remaining 95%. మనలోని ఆలోచనల్లో మార్పు కి కారణం మన జీవితాల్లోని భౌతిక సంఘర్షణలే . అంటే, సామాజిక ఉత్పత్తి శక్తులకూ, ఉత్పత్తి సంబంధాలకూ మధ్య ఉన్న ఘర్షణే . 

కానీ , ( సామాజిక మార్పు కు ) ఆర్ధికాంశం ఒక్కటే నిర్ణయాత్మకం అనే భావన సరి అయినది కాదు. 

ఆర్ధిక అంశమే పునాది. అయితే, సామాజిక ఉపరితలం లోని అంశాలు కూడా మార్పు కు నిర్ణయాత్మక పాత్ర పోషిస్తాయి. 

ఇవి : వర్గ పోరాటాలు, వాటి ఫలితం గా ఏర్పడే రాజకీయ రూపాలు, గెలుపొందిన వర్గం వారు రూపొందించే రాజ్యాంగం, న్యాయ పరమైన రూపాలు ( లీగల్ మ్యాటర్స్ ) , రాజకీయ, న్యాయ, తాత్విక సిద్ధాంతాలు, మత భావనలూ, అవి మూఢ నమ్మకాలు గా ఘనీభవించిన తీరు, ఇవన్నీ చారిత్రక పోరాటాల మీద ప్రభావం చూపిస్తాయి ( ఆర్ధిక అంశాలతో పాటు ). 

మార్క్సు కాని, ఏంగెల్స్ కానీ, లెనిన్ కాని, సామాజిక ఉపరితలం లో ఉండే రాజకీయ, సామాజిక, సాంస్కృతిక అంశాల లోని ప్రాధాన్యత ను ఎప్పుడూ తక్కువ చేయ లేదు. 

అయితే, పెట్టుబడిదారీ వ్యవస్థ, మొత్తం సమాజం మీద తన ఆధిపత్యాన్ని చెలాయించడానికి ఈ రాజకీయ ఉపరితల అంశాలను ఎలా వాడుకుంటున్నదో, లెనిన్ తరువాతి నాయకత్వం గ్రహించ లేక పోయింది ! 

కాని దీని గురించి ఆంటోనియో గ్రాం సీ చాలా ప్రతిభావంతం గా వివరించాడు. 

కార్మిక, శ్రామిక వర్గం విజయం సాధించాలంటే ( ఆర్ధిక అంశాలతో పాటు ) సామాజిక ఉపరితల అంశాల పై దృష్టి కేంద్రికరించాలని చెప్పాడు . 

ఇందులో భాగం గా ఆయన హెజిమొనీ ( భావజాల ఆధిపత్యం ), పౌర సమాజం ( సివిల్ సొసైటీ ), రాజకీయ సమాజం ( పొలిటికల్ సొసైటీ ) వంటి భావనలను విస్తృత పరిచాడు.
